Music and a global community support blood donation

WHO has highlighted its collaboration with K-pop group ENHYPEN to encourage voluntary, unpaid blood donation. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met the group in Seoul on 22 October to recognise their support for World Blood Donor Day 2026.

The campaign brought together music, social media and the group’s fan community, ENGENE. WHO reported more than 9,000 donation pledges across 177 countries in its Drop Your Drop campaign, including over 3,250 people identifying as ENGENE.

Why regular donations matter

Blood products are needed for childbirth complications, severe anaemia, injuries, surgery and other serious conditions. Because they have a limited shelf life, supplies need regular replenishment.

The group also visited a Korean Red Cross donation centre. Members underwent donor screening, and JAY and JUNGWON donated plasma. People considering donation should follow their local blood service’s eligibility and screening instructions.
