Useful Links in Malaysia 42 organisationsAIDS Action and Research Group (AARG)The AIDS Action and Research Group is made up of lecturers and personnel of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang. Activities include AIDS education and awareness campaigns, seminars/workshops, training courses as well as research and counseling services that cater for people in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. AARG had recently expanded its services to the southern region by setting-up the Johor AIDS Action & Research Group (JAARG) in 2001.
All Women's Action Society (AWAM)AWAM is an indepedent feminist organisation committed to improving the lives of women in Malaysia. Its work include advocating and lobbying for improved legistation and policies on gender-related issues in Malaysia, and providing a range of services for women in crisis. These services range from a crisis help-line, referral program as well as legal clinics. Through AWAM's public education and awareness programs, issues, related to women and HIV/AIDS are being highlighted and integrated into the common agenda.
Association of Malaysian Medical AssistantsThe Association of Malaysian Medical Assistants is a voluntary professional body established in 1986. Its aim is to increase the professional knowledge of medical assistants by providing updates to members regarding the latest medical developments. Previously, the HIV/AIDS 'Train the Trainers' program was conducted in order to disseminate proper HIV/AIDS knowledge and awareness among its members.
Bar CouncilThe Bar Council contributes toward HIV/AIDS issues through its involvement with the Law, Ethics and Human Rights Sub-Committee of the Malaysian AIDS Council, the Legal Aid Clinics as well as the kind initiatives of individual lawyers committed to HIV/AIDS issues.
Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia (BMSM)BMSM conducts basic HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns with the sole aim of strengthening the Buddhist community's understanding of the AIDS pandemic. Its other aims are to mobilize the organization's branches throughout Malaysia and spread HIV/AIDS prevention messages, while at the same time, sensitizing the Buddhist community about issues related to People Living with HIV/AIDS.

Community AIDS Service Penang (CASP)CASP is involved in public education, counseling, training of volunteers, outreach work with marginalized communities, provision of emotional/psychological support to People Living with HIV/AIDS as well as many other HIV/AIDS-related activities. Targeted toward the northern region populations of Peninsular Malaysia, CASP also organizes World AIDS Day as an annual major event to make their services known to the public and at the same time, gather more support for the common cause.
Catholic Welfare Services (CWS)
Federation of Family Planning Associations Malaysia (FFPAM)FFPAM is a leading NGO in sexual and reproductive health in Malaysia. It advocates and promotes HIV/AIDS awareness and education via RHAM (Reproductive Health of Adolescents Module), a training tool developed for trainers as well as peer educators, integrating HIV/AIDS and sexual health. FFPAM was also involved in developing the AIDS/STD Module for Family Life Education. One milestone was setting up the 'Buddies of Ipoh' project by the Perak Family Planning Association. HIV/AIDS information is also provided at state outlets via FFPAM youth clinics and youth advisory centers.
Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (PPIM)The Islamic Medical Association Malaysia, comprising of Muslim doctors, nurses, paramedics and medical students, established a halfway house called 'Rumah Solehah' for HIV positive women and children in June 1998. It aims to provide assistance and temporary shelter for HIV positive women who have been abandoned by their families.
Intan Drop-in Society, Teluk IntanThe Society is a new affiliate that aims to provide shelter for clients with HIV/AIDS and abandoned by their families from around the Perak state area. Direct services will be carried out via established networks with the Teluk Intan Hospital.
Kota Kinabalu AIDS Support Services Association (KASIH)
Kuala Lumpur AIDS Support Services (KLASS)KLASS was formed to provide support services for People Living with HIV/AIDS, concentrating on the Chinese-speaking community. Services include counseling, referrals, temporary shelter, and support group sessions for those infected and affected. KLASS also organizes HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns from time to time.
Malaysian CARE (MCARE)Malaysian CARE provides care and support services for drug users through its Drug Rehabilitation and Prison Services as well as Drop-in Center located in Petaling Jaya. Outreach to prisoners, drug rehabilitation centers, streets, homes and hospitals are conducted regularly, by which dissemination of information covering spiritual and educational areas (including HIV/AIDS) are done.
Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Sikhism (MCCBCHS)The Consultative Council, which represents four of the major religious communities in Malaysia, aims to reach out to the general public regarding prevention of HIV/AIDS via its various religious leaders.
Malaysian Dental Association (MDA)MDA provides updates for dental practitioners (dentists, dental nurses, dental surgical assistants) on Standardized Cross Infection Procedures as well as training on Infection Control Techniques. Branches across the north, south and east coast of Malaysia also conduct a number of HIV/AIDS seminars/workshops.
Malaysian Indian Youth Council (MIYC)MIYC is committed towards activating and empowering Indian youths. MIYC has integrated HIV/AIDS educational talks/seminars/workshops within its leadership training and educational programs for Malaysian youths in and out of school, in order to create awareness as well as develop peer educators among the participants.
Malaysian Medical Association (MMA)MMA concentrates on education and awareness of HIV/AIDS (talks and forums) for medical professionals as well as the general public. Its main role is to educate and update doctors on recent development and news regarding HIV/AIDS (epidemiology, clinical diagnosis, treatment, etc)
Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA)MMHA is generally involved in education, awareness and counseling of mental health. The HIV/AIDS education program is conducted through its teenage development and adventure camps, which aims to create awareness about a healthy lifestyle, hazards of peer pressure as well as HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. These camps, conducted through workshops and small discussion groups, using young facilitators as role models, has proven quite successful.

MYC aims to realize the objectives of the National Youth Development Policy and work closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Malaysian Hindu Youth Council (MHYC)MHYC is a youth-based organization established with the sole objective of creating empowered Indian youth possessing leadership qualities. Through its leadership and motivational camps, MHYC conducts training sessions regarding youth-related issues (including HIV/AIDS) for its members nationwide.
National Council of Women's Organizations (NCWO)The NCWO is the consulting, coordinating and advisory body for its affiliated women's organizations. Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia (PENGASIH)PENGASIH (Organization of Reformed Drug Users) runs a drug rehabilitation program based on the concept of therapeutic rehabilitation of the community. Services include day-care facilities, referrals for detoxification, individual and group motivational counseling, after-care referrals and outreach programs. HIV/AIDS education and counseling modules have been integrated actively in all their programs as a response to the rapid spread of HIV amongst intravenous drug users.
Persatuan Perantaraan Pesakit-Pesakit Kelantan (SAHABAT)SAHABAT was established in 1999 with the goal of providing direct HIV/AIDS-related services for the people of Kelantan who have been infected or affected by HIV. Currently, members of SAHABAT conduct outreach to hospitals, homes, and drug- rehab centers in order to disseminate HIV/AIDS information and referrals to their clients.

Pertubuhan Komuniti Intan, Teluk Intan (PKI)
PT Foundation (PTF)PT Foundation or better known as the Pink Triangle, is involved in community-based work on HIV/AIDS and sexuality. Programs are targeted at six marginalized groups - People Living with HIV/AIDS, drug users, sex workers, transsexuals, gay men and lesbians. Support services (temporary shelter, day care, basic medical care, counseling, information, referrals) are provided by its drop-in centers. Pink Triangle was also the first NGO that established 'Positive Living', a support group that offers care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS in Malaysia.
Sarawak AIDS Concern Society (SACS)Affiliated to the Council in March 1999, SACS is involved in educating the people of Sarawak about HIV/AIDS via public education campaigns (talks/seminars) as well as direct outreach programs. SACS also aims to develop culturally relevant materials (IEC) for significant portions of multi-ethnic groups in Sarawak.
Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (SCAH)The Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall conducts talks/seminars/exhibitions (in Mandarin) for its members with the aim of creating awareness amongst Chinese-speaking Malaysians.
Selangor and Federal Territory Family Planning AssociationActivities conducted by the Selangor and Federal Territory Family Planning Association are in line with those carried out by FFPAM. In addition, the Youth Resource Center volunteers have actively contributed toward educating youngsters regarding HIV/AIDS awareness.
Shekinah HomeShekinah Home is Christian-based and provides temporary shelter, counseling as well as general care and support for drug dependents, including those who are HIV positive.
Soroptimist International Club of Bangsar (SICB)SICB started its AIDS preventive projects in 1994. SICB has put together a training manual on AIDS Education for teenagers, targeting those between the ages of 12 and 17. The manual provides factual information on HIV/AIDS, the modes of transmission, etc.
St John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM)The Nursing Technical Wing of St. John, in consultation with the National Training Wing, conducts HIV/AIDS education campaigns for its members, with the hope that they will further apply this knowledge and skills together with the correct attitude when providing First Aid and Home Nursing services.
TenaganitaTenaganita is a women's organization representing the rights of local and migrant women workers in Malaysia. Outreach and collective actions on intervention programs are organized for women in high-risk groups. Tenaganita is particularly active in advocating the rights of migrant workers in plantations and industrial sectors by way of handling cases, providing legal counseling/support as well as conducting research and intervention programs on HIV/AIDS.
The Estate Hospital Assistants Association, Peninsular Malaysia (EHAA)The Education Committee of EHAA is actively involved in HIV/AIDS prevention amongst the plantation community. Activities include talks and seminars for the rural population, including foreign workers and government land scheme groups.
Women's Aid Organization (WAO)WAO provides refuge and counseling for women in crisis, this includes battered women and their children, single mothers and foreign domestic workers. WAO is also involved in public education campaigns to create awareness on issues relating to women, which includes sexual and reproductive health. The HIV/AIDS education module is incorporated into its campaign for the sexual rights of women.
Women and Health Association of Kuala Lumpur (WAKE)WAKE is a women's organization that provides shelter and care for women and children with HIV/AIDS or reproductive health problems who are homeless or abandoned by their families. The services include emotional support and care to all residents and clients, visits to hospitals and homes as well as counseling.
