Wash and dry your hands, place the sealed kit on a clean, level surface and check the expiry date. Read the full leaflet supplied with the kit before opening any components. This is a single-use screening test.
Step-by-step instructions
Complete the steps in order. The pictures below match the components in the iCare kit.
Tear open the alcohol preparation pad.
Clean your finger and allow it to dry.
Push in and twist the knob of the lancet.
Pull out the knob.
Place the lancet against the finger and press the trigger.
Collect about 1–2 drops of blood using the micropipette.
Place about 1 drop of blood into the sample well.
Open the cap of the diluent bottle.
Slowly add about 2–4 drops of diluent to the sample well.
Read the result within 10 minutes. Follow the timing in the supplied leaflet.
How to read your result
A control line beside “C” must appear for the test to be valid.
NON-REACTIVE
A line appears beside “C” only. No HIV antibodies were detected by this screening test.
REACTIVE
Lines appear beside both “C” and “T”. Seek confirmatory testing from a qualified healthcare professional.
INVALID
No control line appears beside “C”. Use a new kit and repeat the test according to its instructions.
What to do after testing
This kit provides a preliminary screening result and cannot diagnose HIV. A reactive result requires confirmatory testing by a healthcare professional.
A non-reactive result may not detect a recent infection during the window period. If exposure was recent or concern continues, seek professional advice about when to test again.
