According to official data, Penang recorded a total of 1,715 HIV/AIDS cases and 2,315 sexually transmitted infection (STI) cases between 2021 and 2025. On average, this means more than two new infections were reported every day.
The 20–29 age group accounted for the highest number of cases, making young adults the most affected demographic. HIV, AIDS, and STI infections were all significantly more common among this age group.

- 2025: 458 cases
Experts say these figures suggest that awareness of sexual health, safe sex practices, and preventive measures among young people still needs improvement. HIV/AIDS and other STIs are not issues that are far removed from everyday life.
